Moltres says: "Trainers get to do a lot more sophisticated stuff, but they don't level up."
Trainers in Pokemon RP Reborn have a lot of power. And the way you choose to RP is up to you. But there are some things that you should remember.
Pokemon are people too! Not in-game obviously, but behind every non-starter Pokemon is another person just like you, who hates being pushed around,
or constantly ordered to do things, or kept in a pokeball where they can't level up or do anything fun for long periods of time. So think about the Pokemon
when doing your stuff, because it IS different to the gameboy games, and thus requires more than a hurling of Pokeballs for everyone to have a good time.
So, you've made a new trainer, and you want to explore the world of PRPR right? Except you're in some house somewhere and don't know
what you are doing? Well don't worry, this guide should clear things up. First of all, it'd help to get to know the locations of all the
shops in town, so that you can get your bearings.
1 - Starting house. It's where new trainers come into the game (that means you!) and is used for nothing besides that.
2- Legacy Gym/Starter Pokemon Lab. This soon-to-be Gym currently houses the starter Pokemon (which are not yet collectable). Once the update is released go here to get your very own starter Pokemon!
3 - Pokemon Centre. It's the place where you take your Pokemon to heal them for free, or to trade them with friends! Note: Some Pokemon only evovle via trading. Starter Pokemon cannot be traded!
4 - Pokemart. You can buy all the items you need for long journeys here, as well as TMs and a HM.
5 - Cell phone shop. Got a spare $7500? Why not buy a Cell phone? (For more info on cell phones click here!)
6 - Real Estate Shop. Just below the Legcay Town Gym is the Real Estate shop where you can buy decorations for your house!
Now it's time to get your first Pokemon! Soon, I will add a system where you can get NPC Starter Pokemon which you will keep forever, and can raise
and battle as you see fit. Unfortunately they aren't ready yet so you'll just have to wait...
In the meantime though, you can still catch wild PC (Player Character) pokemon.
If you saunter on over to the Gym, you will find a bunch of tables set up. On these tables you will see Pokeballs. If you talk to the scientists they will tell you that these are starter Pokemon!
But, you can't get one. Why? Because these are a new feature that I am in the process of implementing, which means that you can look but not touch. Sorry!
You see those things running about outside of town? Those are Pokemon. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to catch at least one of them
and raise it to be a champion. In the process of course, you will collect money, fame and all sorts of cool stuff! Ok so how do you catch one? Well, first
you gotta FIND one! A wild pokemon will have "Wild (Pokemon type) -=(Player's Key)=-" as it's name. You can find them by running through the grass
or hanging out near the Pokemon Sanctuary. (Note: You cannot catch Pokemon in the Pokemon sanctuary!) Anyway, to use a Pokeball, make sure you first have one to use.
Then, target a wild Pokemon by double clicking it. Once you have done that, select your "Commands" tab and click "Use". Select Pokeball and that's it!
Now you just have to hope you catch it...
There are certain things which affect whether you can catch a Pokemon. For example, a Pokemon at full HP is MUCH harder to catch than one at low HP. Also, the higher
a Pokemon's level, the harder it is to catch. You can increase your chances of capturing a Pokemon by buying better Pokeballs (Greatballs and Ultraballs!).
Also, Legendary Pokemon cannot be captured by anything less than an Ultraball!
Anyway, a wild battle is an encounter where you either have no Pokemon, or you have a Pokemon running along with you to battle. Wild battles can involve any number
of Pokemon, and are pretty much free-for-all, so anything can happen! Remember that if you faint a Pokemon it automatically goes to the sanctuary and you
lose your chance to catch it. So be careful! Also, in a wild battle a rival can come by and catch a Pokemon that you're trying to catch. This is considered
highly unethical, but not illegal.
If at any point you run into a wild Pokemon while you have a Pokemon on your team in it's Pokeball or nearby, you will initiate a trainer battle.
Trainer battles are turn-based arena-style battles which play out much like the official games you all know so well. You, as the trainer, will be
put in the hotseat, meaning that you have to select the commands and use (*gasp*) strategy to win! Pokemon CAN disobey though, so be wary!
All you have to do to battle in trainer battle mode is simply select a command when they appear, and leave the rest up to your Pokemon!
A stats panel will appear while you are battling to let you know the stats of the opposing Pokemon, as well as your own.
Items and money are very, very important to a trainer. Without the right items, you may be forced to backtrack to a Pokemon centre to heal your
Pokemon, or may lose a key battle due to status effects. Money is of course important because much of the fun of being a trainer requires you to have cash!
So let's look at some ways of acquiring these things:
Berries are currently the only source of income a trainer has (besides winning events!). They can be sold at Pokemarts or given to Pokemon (but of course
this gets you no money!). A berry is worth between $20 and $200, which isn't all that much, but you can hold up to 10 of most kinds of berries!
Also, you can get your Pokemon to collect berries for you (this is NOT illegal) which speeds up the process. Best of all, berries are totally free to pick!
Lugia says: "All the COOL trainers have Cellphones!"
So you've collected money and wish to use it to improve your status on the game? Well then get a Cellphone!
Cellphones allow you to collect other trainer's numbers (those who have cellphones anyway) and to have discussions with them across a great distance!
Also, you can customise your cellphone colors and ringtone to make it look REALLY pimpin'! To get a cellphone you must visit the cellphone shop, located near
the weird stream in town (I take no responsibility for that, I didn't map it!). You also need money, so poor people need not apply.
All of your cellphone commands can be found in the "Cellphone" tab which appears once you buy a cellphone! ...cellphone. Have I said it enough yet?
A soon-to-be-added function will be trainer jobs. You will be able to apply for a job at the Pokemon Centre and work to earn money
(which will pay more than collecting berries!) Jobs such as Forest Ranger, Pokemon Researcher, Real Estate Agent and Gym Leader will become available!
Be warned though, jobs can be boring, and will only pay if you complete the time required for a shift!
I will touch on Guilds very briefly here because there's a whole topic dedicated to them (scroll to top). But I will say this: A guild costs $10 000
to buy, and then must be set up before you can add members! You can find a tutorial on the Guild page. Later on I will add the option of making Guild houses
where people can leave messages and challenges to each other. At the moment though, there's no room for that! More importantly is housing.
As I mentioned earlier, players can buy houses, and fill the with stuff bought from the real-estate man. Unlike in most games, my houses are
PERMANENT. That is, once you buy one you have it forever. One catch though, if you don't use it for a month I'll delete it and someone else gets your house.
That also includes the furniture inside, so buying a house is really quite a commitment, unless you don't mind losing $20 000 worth of stuff...
Pokemon and trainers, when working together can access areas where one on their own could not. For example, later on the game will give Pokemon the ablity to create secret bases, but only if they have a trainer to command them to. And Pokemon can learn surf, which allows them to transport their trainers across the water to reach uncharted areas! Remember also that Pokemon cannot enter towns unless they are trained! There will be more info here as I add additional moves and combos to the game.
